Building a mechanized LEGO race has been on my mind for a long time. A very long time. When I was a kid, I saw a model of a town in some store (possibly Pewex) with cars glued to a rubber band. It was spinning around and simulating traffic.
Of course, my version had to be without glue or rubber. Built only using LEGO parts.
At LugPol, there was a contest for a model with a maximum size of 16 x 16 studs. With any athlete. I decided it would be a good opportunity to test the mechanism I had in mind. I didn't win the competition but now I know that the mechanism works. You can create straight sections and curves!
So I'll definitely build a larger version someday.
I'll also add that the vehicles I used here are mountain bikes. The frame is part 36934. LEGO calls it the "Bicycle Heavy Mountain Bike." Maybe they meant Fat Bike? I have a bit of mixed feelings about this part as it looks a bit like a motorcycle. I've heard it called a speedway bike, motocross bike, etc. a few times from different people too.
Other LEGO bicycles (classic 4719 and new 6348 with interchangeable handlebars) are definitely bicycles. Unfortunately they're not suitable for the forest. They look like typical city bikes. I'm waiting for a real mountain bike to be released. My favorite type of bike :)
Okay, enough of this offtopic, here's a quick video and a few photos.
