In October 2020 there will be available new storage boxes from IKEA and LEGO. I got them a some time ago and had a little fun with them. Here is the effect of my MOCing around those boxes and a few words about them.
When I stacked those containers I immediately thought about making space base with them. And what theme has lot of white? Of course Blacktron :) I build it in a way that every box can be removed and opened without detaching any elements. This way getting bricks from the containers is extremely easy.
A few words about containers. 4 different sizes are available. For AFOLs the most interesting things will be probably the lids. Generally they are thick, stiff baseplates - 1 or 2 bricks high. Their sizes (in studs) are 16x11, 22x16, 32x22 and 44x32. So each lid is twice the size of the previous one.
The lids are stackable and fit perfectly to whole bricks system in terms of sizes. However, they have none clutch power, they are just lying loose. However the top studs acting like regular studs with proper clutch power. The boxes have also no clutch power and also there is a gap between the container and the plate under it.
Ok, I think I covered the most important informations, if you have any questions, feel free to write in the comments. And I invite you to see the Blacktron BYGGLEK space base! :)
