A space base in the Neo-Classic Space style, reminiscent of the classic LEGO Space series. Its peak time was from 1979 to 1988. But you'll also find here some Blacktron I elements from 1987-1990 period.
It's December 30, 2025 as I'm writing this post. This is my last custom build published this year. I wanted to post it in December because it's been exactly four years since this base was created :D
Yes, it took me that long to publish it... I've made some cosmetic changes in recent days and rebuilt a few things but the general outline was created in December 2021 as part of a collaborative project for a large Space diorama with the WAWLUG group. We even showed it at an exhibition but unfortunately I couldn't find any decent photos of the whole thing put together.
The delay in publication was certainly due to the fact that I needed to build a large desert for one of the Jurassic World films and needed all the bricks in the Tan color. I literally ripped out the entire base and after filming was finished the whole thing was completely ruined. Waiting in a box (photo somewhere below – number 8) to be rebuild.
Okay, let's get back to the base itself. Its main function is to communicate and transmit research data to a central facility on another planet. Classic cosmonauts here are explorers and researchers.
The base consists of a main building (with a mid-range antenna on the roof), a long-range antenna, a power generator and a landing platform. A small reconnaissance ship assists the team in their daily explorations.
But what's going on on the other side of the base? They're space raiders from a group known as Blacktron. They plan to take over the base, steal all the valuable equipment and data...
Below you can find a video of the building process with presentation with 360 shots and other interesting details ;) It's really worth watching!
And as always - photos:
8. This is what the base looked like after using its terrain for the film. Film production is usually on a tight schedule, and there wasn't time to fix this. It's worth noting that this box is perfectly sized for the base. Only two antennas need to be removed to close it...
