[VIDEO] Jurassic World - Farm - Epic Evolution (2/3)

A stop-motion video. Another in a series commissioned by LEGO and Universal. This time action takes place on a farm in a world where dinosaurs live among us. It was also a big success having been viewed 2.9 million times as I write this post!

If you haven't read about the previous film, it's worth checking out here (part 1)

This production was completely freestyle. I didn't even have to use any specific LEGO set. The most important thing was to show a world where dinosaurs and minifigures live together.

I immediately came up with the idea of a farm where prehistoric creatures come to visit. I built a typical American red barn and a colonial-style cottage.

Actually, you might want to watch the video first and then read on, as there will probably be spoilers. The rest of the text is below the video. As usual I'm uploading the video to my channel in 4K quality. LEGO only uploads videos in Full HD, and in my opinion, they lose some of the visual appeal.

I love showing the same scenery in different conditions. Just like in one of my previous videos, I swapped the sun for rain, and here I had an opportunity to change the day into night.

1. Day and night in the same place.

1. Day and night in the same place.

Night in film is generally quite an interesting subject. There are different approaches to this topic. Often it is shot with daylight and transformed into night in post-production. Often the whole thing is tinted blue. Generally night is never filmed realistically, because our eyes work completely differently at night, seeing only illuminated elements, completely darkening the rest. However a night in the movies is usually full of detail, even in places where theoretically there is no light.

As usual I went for solution without post production since I am not a big fan of fixing things on the computer. I simply simulated moonlight and the lights from the house windows. I used real lighting which I appropriately placed in the studio. Everything was done "on camera" without any unnecessary work.

Another interesting fact: a scene that also lasts seconds. The animation of the duvet when the hero wakes up. I bet no one even thinks about it. This was quite a bit of work as I had to build four quilts in different positions to create the effect of sliding down. Below are the individual frames. There are a few more in the film, as each quilt is in several different positions... :D

2. Four different constructions for the blanket-shedding effect.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the shots from this room. They have a slightly off-beat movie feel.

The last thing for today is also interesting. The scene where the farmer wakes up for good next to the Triceratops and screams from various positions on the screen. It's repeated many times by viewers. They often rewind to watch it again. It seems audience really enjoy that one scene!

3. The Farmer's crazy reaction

That's all for today. Here's a link to the original video on the LEGO channel:
